Oren Margolis

Oren Margolis is an MBA admissions consultant and leadership/executive coach, with extensive experience guiding high-achievers across industries and functions. He founded Pinetree & Palm Consulting in 2019, with the goal of helping motivated MBA applicants bring their own stories to life through their application materials. As a former admissions professional, he has a strong understanding of calculations happening on the “other side of the desk” and works with clients on how to navigate what can often be a confusing, frustrating, and unpleasant process.
Oren spent six years in undergraduate and MBA admissions roles at New York University, including at the Stern School of Business. Sitting on admissions committees, he evaluated, interviewed, and rendered admissions decisions for thousands of candidates from diverse walks of life and represented NYU throughout the continental US, China, India, the UAE, and the UK. He also helped launch, position, market, and recruit for various new programs at NYU, including 1-year MBAs in Tech and Fashion & Luxury and degree-granting campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai. He holds his MBA from NYU Stern, with specializations in Strategy and Marketing.
Oren’s corporate experience includes HR, marketing, and strategy roles at VC-backed startups and major companies, including Nova Credit, American Express, Hilton, William Morris Endeavor (WME), and Westfield. He has built and managed talent and leadership development programs, launching and leading Westfield’s US International Graduate Program (IGP) and overseeing career progression for WME’s Assistant through Agent population.
His clients have been admitted to top graduate programs, including University of Pennsylvania Wharton, University of Chicago Booth, Harvard Business School, Northwestern University Kellogg , MIT Sloan, Columbia Business School, Yale School of Management, Berkeley Haas, Dartmouth Tuck, NYU Stern, Duke Fuqua, UVA Darden, UCLA Anderson, UT McCombs, USC Marshall, and Harvard Kennedy School.
Oren has a particular interest in working with LGBTQ applicants and also enjoys working with underrepresented groups and "nontraditional” applicants. He’s based in Los Angeles, CA.
