My research area is in wireless communication networks, mainly but not exclusively applied to the mobility sector. Early in my career, I quickly focused on wireless sensors, vehicular networks and the issues surrounding them, including network planning, design and performance optimisation. Over the years, I consolidated this expertise, opening the way for research on 5G and 6G networks. I'm currently a permanent researcher at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST, ITIS department), in charge of the activities related to future wireless communication systems, with a focus on 5G and 6G. Fresh out of highschool, specialized in Socioeconomic Sciences, I started my journey in Economics at ISCTE-IUL for 2 years, and transfered for 1 year to Computer Science at the same faculty. Although with some success, I was not fullfiling the desired potential, which led me to take a break and return home; I did a couple of formal and informal jobs meanwhile (kitchen staff, driver, etc.) while I was away from my studies. Later in life, now with more motivation, I enroll in Mathematics at University of Aveiro, which henceforth becomes known as my home, having actively participated to return to the faculty all the love and care I was given throughout my life as a student, be it as a member of the student group of my department (Núcleo de Estudantes de Matemática NEMat-AAUAv) and various volunteer campaigns in and out of the university campus. With my bachelors degree chapter over this year, and hopefully soon to follow my Master's Degree next year, I look to improve the skills I have been developing over the course of my studies. Outside of my curriculum, I gained a vested interest in cooking, sports and, in general, a connection to nature. Obviously, as any other person, I also like staying home, enjoying a good movie, playing some computer games, attending live music shows or simply going out with my friends, all in all, the small pleasures of life that I always want to value.

Tao Chen

Tao Chen is a principal scientist and senior project manager at VTT. He is the project coordinator of Horizon Europe SNS 6G-Cloud (2024- 2027), EU H2020 5G-PPP COHERENT project (2015 - 2018), and the technical manager of H2020 EU 5G-Drive project (2018-2021). He is the docent (adjunct professor) in University of Jyväskylä from 2017 and the honorary professor at University of Kent, UK from 2019. His specialists include: software defined networking for mobile networks, energy efficiency in wireless communications, architecture design and resource coordination in heterogeneous mobile networks, resource allocation in cognitive radio networks, self-organization network, and management.

Nikos Dimitriou

I hold a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece (1996), an M.Sc. degree with Distinction in Mobile and Satellite Communications and a Ph.D. degree in Mobile Communications from the University of Surrey, U.K. (1997, 2001 respectively). Since 2001, I have been actively involved in 22 research and innovation projects in the area of Mobile and Wireless Communication Networks via my affiliations with the Institute of Accelerating Systems and Applications (IASA) in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2001-2014), the National Center of Scientific Research (NCSR) “Demokritos” (2008-now), the Computer Science Department in the King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia (2013-now), and European Dynamics S.A. (2016-2017). In NCSR “Demokritos”, I joined the Networks Laboratory (NeL) of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications as a Research Fellow in January 2008 and I became a member of the tenured research staff in April 2021. I am also an Assistant Lecturer in Computer Networks in the School of Science and Technology of the Hellenic Open University (2004-now). I am a Senior Member of IEEE (2011) and have participated in the IEEE standardization group 1900.4 that focused on Radio Resource Management enablers for Composite Wireless Networks. My research work has resulted in the publication of around 80 papers in scientific journals, books and conferences (having received around 965 citations) and on one awarded patent. The focus of my research interests is on Resource Management for Radio Access Networks, including admission control, scheduling, mobility management, routing and capacity dimensioning. I have further expanded my focus to consider cross layer optimization in Cognitive Heterogeneous Radio networks, as well as the design of related autonomic network management frameworks. Furthermore, my interests include distributed media independent signaling mechanisms for performing seamless mobility in heterogeneous wireless networks, taking also into account the evolving 5G/6G software defined architectures. Additionally, my research focuses on the management of networks of interconnected IoT objects using enhanced context awareness, considering also the efficient distribution of computation and intelligence among network nodes. I have also participated in Think20, an engagement group that provides research-based policy recommendations to the G20 Summit, and I've focused on the use of Internet of Things technologies for Smart Cities, Agriculture and Mobility use cases.
