A HISTORY OF RESISTANCE AND REBELLION THROUGH AFRO-CARIBBEAN SPIRITUALITY presented by KNOW YOUR CARIBBEAN
Through this workshop, Fiona Compton of KNOW YOUR CARIBBEAN will be highlighting empowering cultural and spiritual movements in the Caribbean where we celebrate how our ancestors preserved and harnessed their spiritual practices as means of empowerment and resistance against colonial rule.
From our dances like Tambu, practices like Comfa, Myal, Obeah, Montamentu, or how Mami Wata held communities together, there is no end to how our ancestors harnessed joy and power through the use of Afro-Caribbean Spirituality. How Obeah kept colonisers in check, and how our ancestors birthed some of the greatest known rebellions through the spark of our spiritual consciousness which erupted in flames of resistance across the region.
